She moved with her family to East London in 1994 and matriculated from Clarendon High School for Girls in 2003. While at school Melanie served on the Interact Board and Junior City Council. She was elected Junior Mayor of Buffalo City (2002-2003). Mel enrolled at Rhodes University, Grahamstown and obtained a BA degree in 2006 and a LLB degree in 2008. In 2009 Mel joined Bate Chubb & Dickson Inc. and was admitted as an attorney in January 2011. She specialises in personal injury law and dealing with matters pertaining to the Road Accident Fund. Her interests are varied. She enjoys the outdoors: camping, fishing and swimming. She does mosaic art as a hobby and is the proud owner of a miniature dachshund called Zoey who has been her shadow for the past 13 years.
